Meet one of our lesson program students!
Name: Harlie
Age: 11
How did you hear about Heritage Oak Rescue? And what were you hoping to experience?
I heard about Heritage Oak Rescue from Girl Scouts. I am hoping to experience friendships with the horses, learn how to connect with them, and how to care for them.
What is your favorite thing about coming to Heritage Oak Rescue?
My favorite thing about coming to Heritage Oak Rescue is seeing the horses and learning new things. I really enjoy spending time with Ms. Emily. I love doing the ranch chores and swinging on the swing. I also like spending time with the other animals.

Who is your favorite horse? And why?
My favorite horse is Blackjack because he is kind, he lets me touch his nose, and I have a feeling that he is going to be the best horse friend.
What would you say is the most important thing you learned about horses from the basic horsemanship lessons?
I think the most important thing I have learned about horses is how to care for them, how to connect with them, and how to make them feel comfortable and safe.
Was there ever a moment you felt a great connection with one of the horses?
Yes, when I first met Blackjack, I felt like we were going to be best friends.

Is there anything you struggle with when working with the horses?
No, I don't think so.
Has your experience at HOR impacted other areas of your life?
Yes, Heritage Oak Rescue has helped me connect with my dogs. She taught me to get and animals attention by invitation.
Do you have future plans to be a horse owner or have horses in your life in someway?
I will be a vet. Maybe I will care for a horse at my practice.
